A question of morality:

What do you think of the following moral dilemma?

A parent drug tests their child (let us assume he/she is over 18, to imply they are legally adults) due to suspicion of marijuana use, and the child is a user. The child cheats on the test and passes. Was it wrong to cheat on the test? Was it wrong of the parents to drug test their child in the first place?

How I see it, there are several strong points for both sides of the dilemma.

For the first side, "Of the parents":

-The parents are doing the test for the best interest of their child. They see the drug use as something that is detrimental to the child's life.
-Inentionally decieving someone is wrong no matter what the conditions. The purpose of the test is to see if the child was in fact using the drugs, and cheating defeats the purpose.
-Drug use is wrong because the law says so. It is the parent's responsibility to keep their child a law-abiding citizen.
-Testing the child is the right thing to do because the child will be punished if he/she does not pass.

And the second side, "Of the child":

-It is the child's own choice if he/she wants to use drugs. As legal adults, it is his/her own choice of what he/she want to do with their lives.
-Marijuana use, if controlled, is not detrimental to one's life.
-It's none of the parent's business what the child does with his/her free time, to the extent of smoking. Doing somethiing that doesn't harm you or others shouldn't be shunned by society.

So I was browsing the intar-web, looking for some new news on the long awaited 7G iPod (supposedly coming out Q4-2006 or possibly Q1-2007), and instead I found a lovely article outlining how iPods have been being made in factories in China that over-work their employees. It would be easier just to quote it.

"The Mac web is buzzing with a report yesterday by ChinaCSR , a corporate social responsibility website focused on China, which claimed that iPod manufacturer Foxconn had admitted that their employees work about 80 extra hours each month, which is 44 hours over the maximum 36 hours overtime work allowed in Chinese law. The site also claimed that Apple's special investigatory team had signed off on the factory conditions, apparently even after the news broke."

So I think back to iPods, and I remember that nifty little U2 "Special Edition" iPod that they flaunt on the mac site-

Basically, U2 is endorsing the poor working conditions and over-worked (and no doubt underpaid) factory workers that make their special edition iPod. Pretty sweet. (For those of you who don't know, Bono of U2 has been quite the humanitarian over the years and was even nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in the years of 2003-2006.)

twas fun. it wasn't amazing or anything probably because i'm not a HUGE anime fan, but I still had a good time seeing lots of peeps and meeting some new ones. i'll definitely go next year- I'm interested to see how it will be in Long Beach.

Went to Six Flags with JJ, Lawrence, Paul, Kevin, and John (one of Paul's buddies)- had a blast. It was fucking hot though- when we got there my car was saying 102, and when we left it said 107- but my car has been known to be unreliable with tempuratures, so who knows (weather channel, anyone?)?

Other than the fucking hotness we had a good time until Paul hurt his foot. So here's what happened- this stupid employee was saying to people on Spin Out that if they could stand in the middle for the duration of the ride they could get free passes to the front of Tatsu. So being the brave man that Paul is, he stood in the middle. Soon after crouching to the floor as the enclosure began twirling incredibly fast he was pushed against the wall by mainly his face and his ankle :(. So he hurt both the side of his head and his ankle fairly badly.

WTF... my parents say I've been "driving too much" and will be driving way "too much" if I go to pick Lawrence and Paul up tomorrow and then go to AX (and then drive him home after), so they said they're going to write down the car's mileage and if I go more than about 70 miles total they'll take the car away. So now I have to let my friends down and that sucks balls :(. I really hope they find a way to get to AX though.

HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE AT AX! WOOOOOOOOoooOooOoOoOooo...

    <lj:music>Death Will Crush Us All - Truecore</lj:music>

OK so because of Brandy's most recent entry, I have decided to have a pole about what I should do with my hair (this is actually something I have been pondering for a while now). I'll also put one in for Brandy's hair too cuz it's related ^^.

EDIT: Ok LJ is bs apparently when I tried to update my entry I got this message:

Error updating journal: Client error: Access of restricted feature: Your account type doesn't permit creating polls.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

So I guess I'll just ask for suggestions as to what you guys think I should do with my hair. Some stuff I was thinking about was:

1) Mohawk
2) Fauxhawk
3) Dyeing it some color (maybe red, green- something outrageous)
4) Short
